Examples of Projects Conducted at Lima & Associates
Rio Grande Scenic Railroad
Ridership Demand Study
Lima & Associates was retained in 2009 by Iowa Pacific Holdings to conduct ridership demand studies for the Rio Grande Scenic Railway and the Arizona Eastern Railway. Rob Bohannan managed both studies.
The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Ridership Demand Study developed ridership demand projections for passenger rail service on the SLRG serving San Luis Valley communities. Demographic and economic data for the five counties that comprise the Southern San Luis Valley region was collected. Ridership for the 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2030 horizon years was projected and appropriate exhibits were developed for inclusion in the TIGER Discretionary Grant application.
The Arizona Eastern study developed ridership demand projections for passenger rail service between Globe and Safford, Arizona, with intermediate stops made crossing the San Carlos Apache Nation.
City of Casa Grande
Transit Feasibility and Implementation Studies
Rob conducted two transit feasibility studies for the City of Casa Grande while at Lima & Associates. The first, in 2001, was a feasibility study, the second, in 2009, was an implementation study that included the development of an operating plan and management plan. Routes, schedules, days of operation, hours of service, equipment suggestions, and driver scheduling were all developed as part of the plan. Rob assisted the City in the completion and submittal of a Federal Transit Administration application for operating and capital funds for the proposed system.
State of Arizona
Railroad Inventory and Assessment Study
As a subconsultant to R. L. Banks & Associates, Lima & Associates participated in an inventory and assessment of Arizona's railroads conducted for the Arizona Department of Transportation.
As Lima team manager, Rob oversaw the development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) maps depicting the locations of the rail lines, together with various attributes of each line segment including mileage, tonnage carried, and the locations of bridges and culverts.
Rob participated in field views of Phoenix area rail facilities including the BNSF Railway's Mobest Yard shown here and assisted in the initial evaluation of the adaptability of these facilities for future Phoenix-area commuter rail services.
City of Eloy Small Area Transportation Study
Rob managed a Small Area Transportation Study conducted by Lima & Associates for the City of Eloy with funding provided by the City and the Arizona Department of Transportation. The study was completed in the fall of 2009.
As project manager, Rob oversaw the gathering and analysis of transportation and socioeconomic data, the production of GIS exhibits prepared for internal analysis and to depict study findings to the City and to ADOT, and the forecasting of future travel demand. Rob participated in field views of the study area and in the drafting of Existing and Future Conditions Working Papers, and wrote the transit element for the study. Rob also assisted in the development of display boards and developed PowerPoint™ presentations for a project Open House and for the Economic Development Group of Eloy.
In the spring of 2010, subsequent to the closing of the Lima offices, R. H. Bohannan & Associates, LLC was contacted directly by the City and retained to make minor revisions to the study.
